If I were Starting Over in Flute

If I were starting over in flute…

You may not know that my beginning to playing the flute was kind of a rough start.  I really did NOT have good instruction at ALL.  In fact, I didn’t have any instruction at all. I used to hide in my sister’s closet with her flute book.  My parents sent her to a local flute teacher, but never even entertained the idea that I might be the one in the family that REALLY wanted to

My Favorite Email From Flute Students

My favorite emails

“Gracias por compartir con nosotros tu trabajo.” Since I teach flute lessons online as well as a large physical flute lessons studio, I have favorite emails.   They are usually titled something like:  “Thank you!” or “I love these lessons”.  They make me feel so good. I do strive hard daily to bring my off and online students a ton of value. I usually spend around 20+ hours getting a certain module of awesome flute lesson content online.

Does your pet do this?

Here on my little “farm” in the mountains, I have a full grown orange cat whose name is “Kitty”. Kitty loves my students.  In fact, he loves my students so much that he knows precisely what time I begin teaching each day.  The reason I know this is because everyday just as my first student comes up the lane I see kitty go running down to meet them.  He always greets them and expects them

Wisdom Teeth and Flutists

Wisdom Teeth and Flutists

So, today I am taking my oldest son to get his wisdom teeth extracted. The doctor said he is not allowed to play his flute (or any other wind instrument) for several days. I found this pretty interesting and wondered why. The doc said that he once had a trumpet player who played after having his out and apparently it pushed air bubbles up under his incisions. “It caused him all sorts of grief.” Who

Giving Yourself a New Voice

Giving Yourself a New Voice

Learning to play the flute means giving yourself a new voice.  Although you already speak with your vocal chords, this will be a new means of expressing yourself. “You are going to love it.” I had a student for a few years who had been told he would never speak (or walk for that matter).  His mother was devastated and brought him to me to find out if I thought there was a possibility of
