  7. Hi Rebecca
Thanks for great lessons I have done the first model and got a lot out of it
    Best regards Allegra

  8. Nice- welcome Brielle. It sounds like you’re a perfect age for having fun with the flute. I started when I was 10 also! ~Rebecca

  9. I’m very much a beginner; I love the sound a flute makes so I’m excited to learn it. A friend gave me my flute for free, but it badly needs an overhaul. 🙁
I’ve just managed to make a sound – haven’t started making any notes yet!!!
    Val xx

  10. Hi,
I have just now started learning flute for the first time and honestly, I really liked your way of teaching.
I need to buy a new flute for practice .Can you please suggest me one, please mention exact specification I must look in the flute while buying it

  11. Hi Murlis, your Kiowa is a beautiful instrument. It won’t have as many tones (or the same fingerings) as the flute we’re using in these courses here on this website, but you can learn how to produce tone and use your tongue etc. by watching these videos. Glad you’re here. ~Rebecca

  12. HiRebecca,

Just bought Kiowa love flute with 5 holes and am a beginner. Is this modules can be use to practice my Kiowa flute too.

  13. Thank you, Rebecca your lessons helped me out a lot. My tone was fuzzy and airy now it sounds perfect!

  14. Hey Favour, sorry you’re having troubles watching the videos. Make sure you have a nice strong internet connection. See you again soon! ~Rebecca

  15. Hi Flo – awesome to see you in here again! Thanks for the suggestion – this feature is offered in the first lessons only, but I think it would be great to add. You’re right. Glad to have you here! ~Rebecca

  16. Yes Yes, Stan. I have quite a bit of information about this (looks like I need to consolidate it into one good video).
There are lowest, lower, low, medium, high, higher, and highest levels of flute qualities out there. So, finding a good one for your type and budget is a trick.
Here’s what we see in the world of flutes nowadays in order of lowest quality to highest:
    1. Chinese brands (generic, non-functioning, lowest quality, lowest price)
    2. Chinese brands that actually work (there’s only one or two that I know of- here’s the best of these I’ve found so far: http://amzn.to/2tEdw0u )
    3. “Band Brands” (Gemeinhardt, Selmer, Emerson, Armstrong, Bundy, Yamaha, etc. etc. etc. etc. – can work well IF in proper working condition and taken care of)
    4. Student Models of Quality – harder to detect without an instructor pointing it out- mixed in with the Band Brands. I like Jupiter 5111 http://amzn.to/2t4Jbea (for its big tone) and Pearl http://amzn.to/2t4B0hF (for consistency) for new flute starters.
    5. Higher quality student models – higher level workmanship and materials (trevor james, sankyo etc)
I hope this gets you started. Remember, the newer and in best condition is what you’re looking for in a flute no matter the quality. 🙂

  17. Hi Rebecca,
I am a prodigal daughter, meaning I had to leave your lessons last year because of time commitment changes but I am back now. I am looking forward to jumping back in.
I do have a suggestion for your videos though. I would love to be able to click on a link or a button at the end of the lesson that would take me directly to the next lesson. When I get on a roll I don’t like having to close the current video window and find the next one and click on it. I know that doesn’t sound like much more work but it breaks my rhythm. But I do really appreciate your lessons and all of the information you offer on your website.

  18. Hi Allyson, yes yes you’ll learn so well (and easily) here. I hope to see you very soon inside the Gold Level. 🙂 ~Rebecca

  19. I took flute lessons in school, well it was more like a Band class for beginners, but I couldn’t follow with the teacher very well. As soon as I understood one thing she taught, we were already half-way through the next. It was kind of hard to keep up. I’ve kind of abandoned the flute since I got out of school.
But I really want to learn and I finally found this site! So excited! I haven’t gotten to the gold level lessons (got to ask parents and all that), but hopefully, I can get them, these lessons are very nice and I think I’m going to FINALLY get somewhere in playing music!!!
    Thank you so much! ^.^

  20. Yes, getting used to the flute on the right will be a day’s challenge. I’ll show you how to play it easily though. Be sure to watch my lesson videos in the order I have set for you. They are step-by-step and will make it easy.
Let me know if you have any other questions. 🙂

  22. Hi Valencia, I”m sorry your internet connection isn’t strong enough to play videos. Try watching from a public library or somewhere that has better bandwidth. I’d love to make sure you learn. The videos here are amazing, and will help you with exactly what you need. You’ll be great! ~Rebecca

  23. My videos won’t play at all. Which is a bummer because I’ve had my flute for five years and no one could teach me because they moved too slow with lessons and I quickly got bored and frustrated. I was hoping this site would do the trick but I can’t watch any videos

  24. Hi Varun, I’m so glad you are here learning with us. If you ever have a question or want to post a progress video- go ahead and do it here in the comment section. I come in a couple of times per week and answer all of them. Excited for you and your learning. 🙂 ~Rebecca

  31. Hello Professor Rebecca, I am a Indian Flutist and very much interested to learn Western Flute. Your teaching style and the way of teaching technique is excellent. Even a non music man can also learn music with your tutelage.I have gone through all the 5 lessons. I am interested to learn more flutes notes and music from you.–Dr.R.K.Srinivasan,Assistant Director,Television Center,India.

  32. Hi Ashley! Thanks so much for this message- I’m so glad you are learning how to play the flute, and that you’re doing all-county marching band. Congratulations! You are welcome to join the membership area where there are hundreds of more lessons for you. You’ll be first chair in the whole region after you go through the lessons! https://learnfluteonline.com/gold-level/ See you soon! ~Rebecca

  33. You teaching has helped me so much.My band director just does not help me.I am glad I have someone to teach me one on one…Well technically one to computer. But you have helped me so much I got to join the all county marching band.Thanks.You deserve to be payed for this hard work that you do.

  34. Hi Lisa, perhaps are you referring to the ‘recorder’? That’s a different instrument. Perhaps you can clarify by sending me a picture or a link to a picture? This website is all about the flute (silver/classical/concert/ etc) ~Rebecca

  35. Hi Alicia- haha! I love your comments here. (CPR is giving me the giggles) I’m so glad your daughter is learning to play the flute- she’s in good hands here! Keep her moving through in order, and she’ll be so great. And… then she’ll pass all of the others in her class. 🙂 (it’s true) Thank you for the compliments. You’re a great mom! ~Rebecca

  36. I’m sure that these lessons are good, but they are about the flute that is played sideways, not sure what it’s called. I have a flute that isn’t played sideways, but I can’t find any lessons that are for that one. And yes, I have tried playing it sideways as well. If you could recommend some courses for a flute like mine, or at least tell me the name of it, that would be very helpful.

  37. This is going to help my daughter so much. She has decided to join band but her fellow students are over 2 years ahead of her and some are already playing with the University Woodwind Ensemble. She worked for hours this afternoon trying to just find a tone. I haven’t played in 30 years but oddly enough remember so much and I’m very excited about possibly playing again since I’ve lost my singing voice to illness. I’m as amazed as you that they are having my daughter join with her fellow students so we were thrilled to find your lessons. After hours of trying to give CPR to her mouthpiece, literally, after one lesson with you, she immediately found a tone. We were all thrilled! Your method of teaching is exactly what my daughter needs. It takes the pressure off her perfectionist ways and allowed her to have fun with it. I cant wait to see what the weeks will bring. I’m so excited about having music in the house again! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing gift of teaching. It really is a gift.

  38. I’m glad you are here learning how to play the flute Luli. This will be fun! I’ll show you. 🙂 ~Rebecca

  39. Hi rebecca

  43. Hi Mark, of course it’s okay if you learn how to play the flute at age 23. I have ALL ages here in the flute lesson membership. I think the youngest is 6 (learning with a parent), and the oldest is 92 (so far). So… no worries. You’re in good company! Keep it up. I’ll show you how. ~Rebecca

  44. Mark Bryan S. Motas

  47. Hi Jose, I have a friend from the Congo- I should ask her if she is familiar with the flute you are speaking of here. I’m glad you are learning more about playing the flute. ~Rebecca

  48. very interesting course, it helped me to know more about modern flute. I’m actually a flute player but a home made flute(from Congo,DRC), made with PVC pipe and for me the modern flute is totally a new experience. The course helped me to have an idea and i wish to know more. Thank you Rebecca.

  49. Did you try again? Perhaps your internet was running slow at the time you tried? Or, are you possibly located in a country that has vimeo blocked? (some parts of indonesia)

  50. I have tried to click the play buttons, but i couldn’t watch anything. It’s just white blank in the screen.

  51. Hi Ömer! We are very glad you are here learning how to play the flute with us all. See you in the next lesson. 🙂 ~Rebecca

  52. Hey Rebecca and Ömer, I’m from Turkey too and I watch Rebecca every day and ı love her 🙂 I hope you meet you Ömer and talk about flute 🙂

  53. Hi Régine, I’m so glad you are learning to play the flute. These videos will help you become really good! See you again soon. 🙂 ~Rebecca

  54. Merci beaucoup Rebecca pour les conseils très utiles pour les débutants comme moi.

I don’t speak english very well. But it’s really help me. I started 2 months ago with a teacher, but it’s still hard for me to play the DO and Do# (C). Your counsels really help me to place my lips on the embouchure and even if I have to practice again and again, I can play the DO and Do# now with more facility.

  55. Hi Helen, this is so exciting that you are here learning how to play the flute. We welcome you into our friendship! Let me know if you have any more questions – see you again soon. 🙂 Rebecca

  56. My story is kinda similar,
My parent pass away when I was a baby. Have live with relative one family after another. I was treated like an ophan. My three cousin get to go to piano lesson because they have parent that could pay for there lesion. I was left on the sideline watching them practice. Now that I am older and could afford my own lesion . All I wanted is to be able to play an instrument well just to be able to feel or have a chance at lease in this life time.
Thank you for your website .. I will practice my hardest ?

  57. RebeccaFuller

Hi Paul, I’m so excited that you are learning to play the flute, and that you recognize the value so much that you sacrificed your hard-earned money to fulfill a dream. I’m excited for you! I’ll teach you everything you need to know. See you soon. 🙂 Rebecca

  58. Poul Voss-Knude

    Hello Rebecca.
Of cause do I understand that You cannot be working for free.
I spent my last danish $ buying the flute.
    Poul Voss-Knude.

  59. Hi Melea, it really just depends on you, your background knowledge, how fast you learn, how much you practice, (and the condition of your flute). Remember also that you can always schedule some private lessons with me to keep you on track also. Good luck!! Rebecca

  60. Hi Rebecca, so I have acess to all this for $–.– a month at my leisure? Really. If that’s the case I have no more excuses

  61. Hi Omer. I’m so glad you are learning how to play the flute from me. I have other students from Turkey, and my son is going to visit there next January. I look forward to your progress updates. 🙂 Rebecca

  62. Yes Sachin, continue following the lesson modules in the order I have set here, and you’ll become a really good flutist. 🙂 Rebecca

  63. hey Rebecca Im from Turkey and I watch you every my freetime. English is not my native language but you can teach very well to me. Thank you for your servise.

  64. Wow, I’ve never heard of microwave internet. That’s pretty nifty! I’m sorry that streaming is difficult in your area. It’s really great that you signed up for the Gold Level. You’re going to learn a lot! I hope you can come down to ‘town’ often enough to catch a lesson, take great notes, download the pdf’s and mp3’s and go back home for practice. I have other students in your same situation (living on sail boats etc), and If I could figure out an easy way to zap it to you, I would. Video files are very, very large and take up several GB of space for just a few lessons, so… let’s hope technology catches up here soon and we can make it even more accessible. 🙂 Good luck! ~Rebecca

  65. Hi Udit, the differences are enough that the lessons cannot be used for the bansuri past the first few lessons. I have many other students in India, so if you can find yourself a standard/concert/silver/classical/transversal flute (there are many names) then you can enjoy these lessons and become a full musician. I hope to see you soon. ~Rebecca

  66. Hi Rebecca,
I love your lessons. I know nothing about playing the flute so your lessons are my first introductions . The lessons are very easy to understand and follow. I spoke with you briefly before about trying to put them on disk. I live in remote part of mountains and we don’t have a lot of “streaming” time. We basically “borrow” internet down below n it gets “microwaved” up to us.. So having said that basically watching one show on Internet will use up time for the entire month.. I did sign up for gold level and am really excited. i am just trying to figure out a way to have more access…. Any thoughts for me would be appreciated

  67. Hi,
I’m from India and the traditional version of flute here is the bansuri. How different is this from the standard flute? Can there be some adjustments made to incorporate these lessons or must I try getting the silver plated ones?

Loving the lessons either ways! Thank You!

  68. Naphtalie Munozvilla

Thanks,Rebecca! Actually, I won’t be entering the intermediate level Rebecca ……. Heh. Sooooooooooooooo lets talk about sumthin else. Alrighty!
Ok let’s see, first what I meant by “at least I’ve mastered one instrument and started another!” Was my brother started piano yeeeeeeeears ago and still not very good at it.???

  69. Hi Naphtalie, I love your story. You’ve done really well! I guess we’ll be seeing you in the Intermediate Level now. 🙂 Keep it up.

  70. Naphtalie Munozvilla

I’m all alone. I am the only person in my family who knows how to play the flute. I am in module 60 the bonus and done with flute learning so now to tell my story.
I got my first wind instrument when I was eight. It was a recorder. I was memorized when i took it out of the plastic bag.
I studied recorder for a whole year. On my ninth b-day I had already mastered recorder and bored. So my mother said”because you have done so well in the recorder we have a surprise
For you.” And they were right it was a surprise! My first flute. It was used and had little scars all over it. But that didn’t matter. It was gorgeous. My older brother scoffed and said ” that old thing is worthless.” But I stuck my tongue out at him and said “at least I’ve mastered one instrument and starting another!” I laughed at him and marched to my room.
My brother is 12 and I’m 10 his name is Sergio. But all of us call him Serginio. I had no idea how to play the darn thing and I was very confused. My mother looked up some websites and saw
Something that said ” learn your first song in just 70 days!” I was in terrible shock! So was my mother so we crossed that off the list. Then my mother saw learn flute online.
We tried the first modules that were free and I was like,WOW! My mother saw how much I enjoyed learn flute online so my father payed membership and I studied.
I am ten now so I have one whole year of studying and now I am done.

This is for all new beginners salutations all. Naphtalie Muñozvilla.

  71. Hi Annie, this is a really great question. I would watch the videos anyway.. you might yawn a lot, but you’ll soon learn all about flute specific articulation and what it means. (where to tongue and where not to etc) Since you’re a musician I’m sure you understand why it’s important to know all of this kind of ‘jazz’. 🙂

  72. I have one question. I have already learned to play advanced piano, do you still recommend watching the note reading videos?

  73. These flute lessons are amazing! So easy! today is my first day, and I feel like I know so much already. Thank you SO much Rebecca!

  74. Wow! This is so easy! Every question I can think about, you seem to answer it in the video! 🙂 Thanks, Rebecca. Your an awesome teacher!

  75. I haven’ gotten started yet, but I can’t wait to try this! 🙂 I love playing flute and I can’t wait to learn again.

  76. Perhaps I answered this in the wrong module, here it is again: A “rocket spit” means you’re going to release your tongue quickly and push your air out harder. You’ll have to experiment with exactly “how hard” for each note… because they are all a little different. 🙂 Great question. ~ Rebecca

  77. Thank you very much Rebecca. This first Module put me on Start Line. Hope to be able to play some beautiful tunes very soon.

  78. I have the same experience. That’s why I didn’t finish my piano lessons, and I was same your age. Happy to find Ms Rebecca Fuller. Thank you for this opportunity. Cheers to our flute journey! =)

I am a trumpet player, who has recently accepted a band teaching position. I was looking on line and saw your wonderful lessons for flute. Therefore, I purchased your series in the hopes that it will make me a better flute teacher and a better musician.

    Hi Rebecca,

I love people playing flute but I am new to flute and don’t know anything about it. I was listening your free five modules and very much impressed. Today I have registered with your Gold modules. I am confident that I will learn playing flute when I complete your gold modules.
