Take it away Rebecca!

Hi, I’m Rebecca Fuller and today we’re going to be having a quick discussion about the amazing benefits of music lessons and how they can be a blessed gift to you.

The reason I decided to use this subject for a podcast is because I recently received this comment on an email from one of my online students. She says, “I am completely signed up and on board! I’m am so excited that I found you and your online program! I am coming up on my 60th birthday, my new flute and your lessons are my gift to myself!

Well first of all congratulations to that student and I’m so excited for you and what you’ve decided to do for yourself.

Wow. I cannot begin to express how awesome this makes me feel. I actually have a swelling sense of accomplishment when I hear these words, because it’s because of reasons just like this that I decided to expand my teaching business.

Really, it was because I knew I had a lot more people on this lovely planet that I needed to reach, and that I know that I can make a difference. So, it really feels good when I hear back from my audience that what I have offered them is exactly what they wanted, needed, and desired. This lovely person is going to have a beautiful birthday gift of learning, pleasure, creativity, and a lasting hobby to enjoy and share as well.

If you’ve been around long enough, you may have heard about some of the benefits of music lessons.. that is what I want to talk about today, they are something that can be deep and everlasting. Studies on the human brain have shown that learning music deepens a student’s ability to absorb the information that they are hearing and seeing in even many other subjects besides music – think math, literature, science, etc.

I especially feel this is true because I’ve experienced this in my own life as well as seen it enhance my children’s lives as well. I have three boys and music has been an integral part of their lives.

There are also some crazy great perks that go along with music lessons that include coordination and extreme enhancement of other physical skills that people use in their everyday lives. Just think of how often you use your fingers and the right brain crossing that happens.

Music lessons are a really great goal-oriented way to learn all about self improvement as well. One of my favorite subjects.  Think of all the time and effort a music student spends working on getting their own body and mind to cooporate in the desired way.. this in itself is amazing.

Just the fact that someone can learn to take a daunting task a sheet of music that looks scary or something they’ve heard that they don’t know anything about. It just feels.. well I think daunting is the best word for  that. and overcome the challenge one step at a time is teaching such self-control – everyone on this planet can benefit from this in every walk of life, I’m sure you’d agree.

I’d like to list out a few more assets that we can gain from learning all about music and enjoying a musical instrument; the first is that I believe music is a very healthy emotional outlet. Self expression cannot be rivaled in other subjects except maybe the art of dance I feel, and we all know that music and dance go hand in hand for sure.  Pure enjoyment is another blessing of music that I wish upon every human being on this green earth.

My goal as I present my flute students with skills and daily small challenges is to help them gain the tools to create and play their own music on their own terms for their own enjoyment. Music can be internalized to the point where it goes beyond this realm and is felt every bit just as much as heard with ears. It’s really pretty cool.

I could get a bit emotional about this right now, but for the sake of getting through the subject today I’ll move on.

Learning to love music comes from skill mastery and enjoyment in using those skills. I’m sure you’ll agree that music lessons are one of the most profound and longest lasting gifts you can ever give to yourself. This is one reason I am so proud of you for being here today on this podcast episode listening and learning.. and hopefully really enjoying the process.

I have a love for music I’m sure you can tell, and the contribution it has had to my life isn’t something I can take lightly.

If you are in the process of making your way through brand new skills on your instrument, I hope you’ll slow down a little and take time to smell the musical roses because really  that’s what it’s all about.

And I hope I’ll be seeing you soon soon in one of my online video lessons at Learn Flute Online dot com because I made it just for you.

  1. I’ve been through Rebecca’s entire programme (beginner to Advanced) TWICE and plan on doing it all again. Every time I open a unit I learn something new and love going back through all the pieces. The lessons keep me focused (and refocused) on the skills and hopefully I am becoming a stronger player!
Yes Rebecca, “Music is the fruit of love!” Liz

  2. You’re making a really lovely contribution to the world, Rebecca and helping lots of people follow their dream of playing the flute, myself included. Thanks!
